What is the ignition switch?
The ignition switch is a crucial part of an electric scooter. It connects the starter to the battery to transmit a tremendous rush of electricity to the starter when your electric scooter is turned on. But, sometimes, the ignition switch becomes jammed or broken, and you may find it difficult to start your electric scooter. So, that time you need to bypass the ignition switch on your electric scooter.
How to bypass the ignition switch on an electric scooter?
If the ignition switch of your electric scooter is not working correctly, you can’t start your electric scooter by pressing the button. In this case, you have to bypass the ignition switch if your electric scooter has a broken or jammed ignition switch.
Bypassing the ignition switch of an electric scooter is very straightforward. However, you have to know some mechanical knowledge for it. So, I am explaining step-by-step instructions on how you can bypass the ignition switch on your electric scooter-
Step 1: Collect Required Instruments
You must collect some required instruments such as a screwdriver, park tool, a plier, and safety tools before bypassing the ignition switch of your electric scooter.
Step 2: Remove The Handlebars And Handlebar Tape
Now you need to remove the handlebar by removing the screws that hold them in place or remove the handlebar tape by peeling it off.
Step 3: Loosen the Clutch Cable
Then loosen the clutch cable. Then hold down the throttle while you are turning the key to start your electric scooter. After that, release it and turn off the key.
Step 4: Disconnect the Battery
To start the procedure, you need to disconnect the battery from your scooter. In order to disconnect the battery from your electric scooter, you need to remove the cover plate from the deck and find the battery cable plug. To find the plug, you can follow the battery cable. After finding the plug, remove it to stop flowing electricity to the scooter.
Step 5: Open the Ignition Switch
If your electric scooter has an ignition switch with a digital metal at the handlebar, you just need to unscrew the ignition switch portion. For it, you have to pull the ignition switch and remove the plastic cover by unscrewing the nuts.
Step 6: Connect the Cables
After opening the ignition switch, you will find a green cable and two red cables. Pull out the soldering cables to connect them together to make a direct connection. Then twist the wires so that you can solder them later easily.
Step 7: Reconnect the Battery power
Then put the wire back in place and screw the ignition switch cover. You must screw the cover on at this stage without the ignition switch. Then connect all the unplugged things that you unplugged at the beginning.
